Phatsimong Adolescent Centre

Africa's first comprehensive centre for adolescents living with HIV!

First of its kind

The Baylor Bristol-Myers Squibb Phatsimong Adolescent Centre is a one of a kind space built to address the special needs of adolescents living with HIV. In response to a growing population of HIV+ teenagers, The Phatsimong Adolescent Centre was opened in June 2013. The centre is home to our Adolescent Services staff and provides a safe location to carry out adolescent programming.

The building offers:

  • Staff offices
  • 24 computers in two computer labs
  • A growing library with age appropriate books
  • Counselling rooms
  • A covered recreation court for basketball, netball and badminton
  • A kitchenette for nutrition lessons

Phatsimong is a safe and welcoming place where adolescents receive:

  • life skills education
  • information regarding health issues including HIV prevention and ARV adherence
  • strategies for disclosure
  • skills for dealing with adolescent challenges, stigma and discrimination
  • improvements in future outlook.
